Technique Sunday- Staples

Technique Sunday

Staples

You can find staples for scrapbooking in all different sorts of colors to match your layout. Here is a small list of how you can use staples on your layouts.

  • Staple ribbon
  • Staple around a photo or embellishment
  • Staple velum
  • Staple a transparency
  • Staple a embellishment

Here is an example where I stapled around the photographs.

Scrapbook Personality Quiz

Scrapbook Personality Quiz

I took a scrapbook personality quiz today. You can find it here Creating Keepsakes.
These are my results.

The scrapbooking bug has bit you, and but so far you’re taking scrapbooking nice and easy. You’ve created some beautiful pages (although your first attempts may not have been exactly breathtaking), and your family members are learning to appreciate your scrapbooking efforts when they see themselves in your pages. Your paper collection isn’t quite yet organized alphabetically by manufacturer, color and pattern, but you’re getting there. A few more crops, and you could be hooked for life.

They are not to far off base actually. I am not one for going to crops and find it hard to find the energy to scrapbook during the weekdays that I am not off. I will go to a crop someday… but leaving my nice organized room is just to hard a this point.

Technique Sunday- Ribbon

Technique Sunday

Ribbon

Using ribbon adds a fun and textured element to any layout. You can use it as a background, wrap embellishments around it, use it on tags and more. The possibilities with ribbon are endless.

Examples:

Ribbon is used across the bottom of the photograph as a separation in the page.

Swamp layout

Ribbon is used here on the tags to draw the readers focus to my journaling.

10 tiny things I love

A fancy gold ribbon is layed accross this photo to add a bit of glimmer.

Christmas

I also really enjoy embelishing ribbon, inking it, and using sand paper to create different effects. Have fun creating.

Technique Sunday- Magic Mesh

Technique Sunday

Magic Mesh

Magic mesh is a great element to focus on a part of your layout. It works great for beach layouts to mimic netting, or on tags. Personally I only like it in small amounts, but you can really have fun embellishing it.

You can purchase magic mesh at the scrapbook store, or I have been told drywall tape works as well. I would be careful regarding acidity with drywall tape though.

I like how versatile magic mesh is. You can sand it, ink it, paint it or tear it to create different effects. You can get it in multiple colors in order to co-ordinate it with your layout as well.

Examples:

On this layout, magic mesh is used on the tag as an embellishment, and behind the photograph.

You came into my life

The title in this layout is backed with magic mesh to highlight it.

Making memories tool kit

Making Memories tool kit

This was one of my first tool purchases for scrapbooking. I absolutely love this kit and use it constantly. It includes a silver case, hammer, eyelet setter, three size anywhere hole punches, round-ended pliers, tweezers, paper piercer and needles.

You can also get the deluxe kit which includes an add on with a small metal ruler, craft knife with replacement blades, and a glue pen.

The only drawback of this kit is that when you insert eyelets you are using a hammer, so it can get loud. Personally this is not an issue for me. I feel it’s the same as a man working in the garage. It can however be inconvenient if you have sleeping kids in the house.

I have been using it for over five years and the durability is amazing. Definitely a recommended tool if you don’t mind a little noise.

Here is a video demonstration on setting eyelets with the making memories tool kit.
